  • Viva! Springfield, a month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Mont
  • Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) Brunch, held to recognize the historical significant of a Mexican holiday
  • Educational activities on Latino-related topics at the Springfield Children’s Museum
  • Salsa Nights! Dances (Proceeds benefit Image and the Latino Student Scholarship Fund)
  • Latino/a Leadership Award, presented to University of Illinois at Springfield past Chancellor Naomi Lynn, 2000

 

Current and past activities/programs include:

 

  • Volunteering in university programs to encourage Latino students to enroll in higher education programs
  •  
    Assisting with the Springfield Honduras relief effort
  •  
    Serving on various boards and coalitions to ensure Latino representation as well as to provide translation services and diversity training
  • Assisting the city of Beardstown to negotiate an understanding between its blossoming Mexican population and city officials during racial tensions in 1996, culminating in the problem-solving group, Beardstown United
  • Participating in the Coalition to Promote Human Dignity and Diversity, Study Circles, and the Springfield Taskforce on Race Relations
  • Participating in the Springfield Sister City Association—San Pedro, Mexico program
  • Serving on the Lincoln Land D.A.R.E. board
  • Serving on the Springfield Area Arts Council board
  • Serving on the Land of Lincoln Girl Scouts Advisory Council
  • Establishing a Latino/a Medical Student Scholarship Fund with the SIU School of Medicine
  • Assisting employers to diversify their workforce by serving as a connection to the Latino community and disseminating job information
  • Partnering with the March of Dimes’ educational health care program, Comenzando Bien, which is aimed at Hispanic women and their families
  • Producing a Spanish language directory of local outreach and community services for Latinos in the Springfield area
  • Partnering with UIS on a 2008 immigration event "A Dialogue on Immigration and Community Organizing"
  • Contributing to the annual Beardstown Mexican Independecne Day celebration event
  • Partnering with the Governor's Office to host "Tu estado a tu alcance" event at UIS
  • Hosting a Meet and Greet event for prospective IMAGE members
  • Hosting a Networking Reception at the SIU School of Medicine to promote the Latino Medical Scholarship Fund
  • Endorsing the Roadway Safety Bill as proposed by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR)
